Straight out of high-school Joel received a fully funded attachment from Film Victoria, training with Oscar winning director Anthony Minghella on his Civil War epic Cold Mountain.

After producing a Tropfest finalist in 2001, Joel went on to making commercials for brands such as The Age and Holden. Since then, Joel has moved seamlessly between producing, writing and directing on a wide range of projects, from music videos to web-based content. In addition to his advertising work, Joel directed on Season 3 of The Saddle Club for Channel 9, as well as ABCs successful kids series’ Prank Patrol.

He has also produced and or directed a number of acclaimed short films, such as the high-end, family-adventure Gravediggers, co-financed by LA based movie-studio Relativity Media. Other credits include working as a producer’s assistant to Joni Sigvattson on the Jason Statham, Robert DeNiro thriller The Killer Elite.

Most recently, Joel was selected out of over 80 entries for the Raw Nerve Initiative, run by Open Channel and Screen Australia. His short film Dinner for 3, which he directed and co-wrote as part of the program, will be broadcast on the ABC in early 2014.
